It’s our ToTaLLy 100% Joshua Rush Exclusive interview...and YES, Piper asked about Cyrus being Disney Channel’s first openly gay or #LGBTQ character on Andi Mack. But, that’s not why we’re keeping this interview long. The reason for the length is Joshua himself! He’s funny, super-smart, sincere, sweet and AwEsOmE to talk to! Keeping Score: Last year we predicted that Andi Mack would be the number one show on kids TV before the show even launched. This year, we predicted that Joshua Rush’s character, Cyrus, was going to be Disney Channel’s first gay character months before it was announced. 2 for 2! Yup, breaking wind….errr….news since 2007. Speaking of 2007…Piper’s Picks turns 10 years old in December! HoLy PiPeRoNi! So, last September, we released another one of our MeGa-kEwL interviews with Cree Cicchino & Madisyn Shipman. HoLy PiPeRoNi! We finally made it to the TWiT Studios! TWiT has been a MaJoR-HuGe inspiration behind Piper’s Picks TV since we launched nearly 10 YEARS ago! When we started in South Florida back in 2007, there was no other online entertainment news show. We couldn’t even find anyone else in the entertainment industry on Twitter (including Disney and Nick)! Almost nobody had heard of podcasting. We were playing in a space still only known to techies and geeks. We were there and learned a lot about it from watching Leo Laporte, aka The Tech Guy! Leo took his radio and Tech TV background and created a future model for online broadcasting. TWiT shows how well produced, professional content can be delivered online and compete with the cable channels and news networks at a very small fraction of the cost (and with much more involvement with viewers). OK, you Guyz! THIS is probably our most popular blooper of all time! It’s my intro blooper and second interview with the legendary George Takei (aka Captain Sulu from Star Trek). It’s MeGa-fun and Entertaining! That’s why we’re pulling this one out of the 2013 Piper’s Picks Planetary Headquarters archives! It’s THAT funny!
All goes wrong from the get-go! When I tried to do my intro…well, YOU tell me what went wrong! 4 years later, I’m still not sure (and I don’t know if I ever will be). We eventually move on to talking about saving whales, saving turkeys, Tom Hanks, changing history, and voicing a computer (Majel Roddenberry would be so impressed)! HoLy PiPeRoNi! STEVE CARELL part 2!!!! OK, lemme back up for you guys! Yesterday was the MeGa-AwEsOmE world premiere for Despicable Me 3! It’s the third installment (we’ll count Minions as a separate one) in the most despicable cartoon franchise of them all (you know, in that universe where despicable means ultra-kewl-major)! If you’ve been watching Piper’s Picks, you probably saw our first interview with Steve Carell! People always ask what celebrities are like in person. Well, Steve is really super genuine and nice, just like he seems like he’d be. So, it’s really great to interview someone like that! Oh yeah, he’s funny too! His alter-ego (or alter egos in this case) are pretty kewl too, even if they are balancing between good and evil. In Despicable Me 3, Steve Carell is working double-duty playing Gru and his blonde twin brother Dru! There’s a new car too…a despicamobile! They actually had one at the premiere. I sat in it…the security dog sat in it…the other security dog would not sit in it. Anyway, let’s move on. Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures did some really kewl stuff for the big day. So, as a special bonus and a way to get these interviews out fast, we decided to add on a special extra interview to this episode with one of Gru’s 3 favorite kids, Edith! It’s my first interview with Dana Gaier! Edith is the super-cute middle child who seems to have just a touch of that middle-child syndrome, then ratcheted up some! It’s the double-episode you’ve been asking about! Two Piper’s in one episode! Piper Reese, the secret inspiration behind Henry Danger’s Piper Hart???, interviews…well, Piper Hart. Better yet, Ella Anderson! Ella’s been on a bunch of Disney and Nick shows including Liv and Maddie, Dog with A Blog and A.N.T. Farm. FIRST of all, Major HuMoNGoiD CONGRATS to the Andi Mack cast and crew on the 2ND SEASON pickup (as IF anyone even doubted that one happen)! Number one show, as we predicted, in like every girl-who-can-read demographic through tweens. So, there we were at Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards 2017 and, not only were Peyton Elizabeth Lee and Asher Angel there too, but so was Sofia Wylie (aka Buffy)! We almost…didn’t release this one because it went a little off course when we were stopped in the middle from singing by someone’s Dad! Almost! (Nope, not that Dad you’re thinking!) We thought we’d have to cut too much out. BUT, Sofia Wylie is so real and MeGa-Sweet every time I see her that we didn’t want to do that. TeamPiper decided to leave the whole Daddus-interruptus in for you guyz to check out. Why! Well, as Roger Rabbit would say…”’Cause it’s funny!!!!” OK, admitted, this sentence is only here for people who either love reading our descriptions or like not clicking play. Seriously! What!? Lilimar and Brec Bassinger are both working on new shows!? Of course they are! I caught up with these two MeGa-AwEsOmE girlies at Kids Choice Awards 2017. Between “the carpet is closing” announcements, we pulled out a fewww details. Yeah, we did some wardrobe talk too! You all know that Brec moved over from Bella and the Bulldogs to School of Rock where she’s playing Kale. If you haven’t head (which means you haven’t seen this Piper’s Picks episode: https://youtu.be/-XjUg_5ytCE ), Brec has been moonlighting over at Disney Channel! Seriously!? Yes! She filmed a TV movie/pilot with Forever In Your Mind called Forever Boys! The #FIYM boys are playing teen vampires from the 60s who are now in high school, in a boy band, and in modern day times. It sounds a little like JONAS, but with much more of a “bite” to it. Haha! Get it!? Bite!? Ha! (OK, I’m wasting too many bytes on that one. Yeah, I know…🙄). OK, as for Lilimar! There’s been a little more secrecy about what she’s been up too, but we now know it's called Knight Squad and it's set at a magical school for knights (hmmm...WOWP sounding, eh?)! So, let’s see how all that goes down and get into some fashion talk too! Lilimar is always funny and soooo sweet! OK! OMG! You guyz will ToTaLLy LOVE this one! We’re on the red carpet at the premiere for Victoria’s new movie The Outcasts and it looks AwEsOmE! Of course, you’ll get the deets on Victoria’s latest role and her reunion with Avan. What!? That’s right! Victoria isn’t the only Victorious actor in this one! Avan Jogia (yup, Beck!) is in it too (and so is Peyton List)! But, there’s a lot more here…like…a MAJOR flashback We’ve got an unseen, on set interview with Victoria at Nickelodeon on Sunset right after the Victorious premiere! So, I haven’t seen Victoria in like…forever! Our first interview for Victorious was 8 MONTHS before the show even premiered in July 2009! We did two interviews that we’ve kept pretty quiet about in 2010 including one on-set at Nick on Sunset! HoLy PiPeRoNi! It’s The Revenge of Casey Simpson! Casey Simpson ToTaLLy calls out Mace Coronel on Mace’s swag comment from our last KCA interview! Does the hair change get Casey more attention from girls? Who has more swag and how can you have more swag!? That’s a tough one…but Casey just upped the stakes! It’s always fun to interview Casey and Mace from Nickelodeon’s Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn and this time around, things get funnier! Casey has lots of info plus a new movie on the way! HoLy PiPeRoNi! The #HuMoNGoID new Disney Channel show Andi Mack ToTaLLy crushes the field! Terry Minsky returns to Disney for the first time since Lizzy McGuire (which is in our very top tween shows of all time) and we’ve got Peyton Elizabeth Lee (Andi), Asher Dovangel (Jonah Beck), Joshua Rush (Cyrus), Sofia Wylie (Buffy) AND Emily Skinner (Amber) here to talk boys, girls, characters, crushes and on vs. off-screen chemistry! THIS is precisely what we’ve been hoping to see from Disney Channel. Background? OK! Disney and Nick have long been avoiding what’s called “low concept” shows (see this article on adamfeinsilver.com). Development execs told us following pitch meetings for a show we’re working on (hint) that they only want “high concept” and didn’t want shows with “kids at school or at home.” Weird? YES! We’ve listened to you guys for like…over 9 years…and good low concept shows always work (i.e. Lizzie McGuire, Even Stevens, Girl Meets World!) Maybe it took Terry Minsky to get things back on track. Hmmmm!? Anyway, Andi Mack (aka Andiland) is AwEsOmE! In addition to Terri Minsky, Michelle Manning is on board! Michelle is behind Teen Beach Movie 2 and Disney’s remix of Adventures in Babysitting! So, we had some special insight (i.e.. the original script) into what was coming…and saw some changes that made the show a fit for Disney. Somehow, they kept all the magic of the original (kept it real) and still made it Disney-style. Let us know if you want us to go into techie details (or if you’ve read this far into the description). So, we’re NOT giving away the big secret sauce at the end of episode 1! You have to watch! As for why Bex is missing from interview, Lilan Bowden cut out before our round of interviews! YES! DOUBLE-SINGER episode! You guys will definitely recognize these two MeGa-AwEsOmE girlies! I actually have met Brooke Sorenson at least TWICE! I think we BOTH forgot about the first time back in 2013! (Be sure to catch the clip at the end!) We’re talking about everything; yes, everything: Jeremy’s new movie, Surf’s Up 2 and Cody Maverick, WWE, Finn and Princess Bubblegum relationship issues, Mr. Student Body President, girls, relationships, Robin from Batman: The Brave and the Bold and a lot more! HoLy PiPeRoNi! Girl Meets World Cancelled by Disney Channel? What!? We’ve got info: what Disney may be thinking; the new shows on the way; and 2 of our unreleased interviews with ROWAN BLANCHARD! Seriously! Somehow, TeamPiper had not one, but two interviews stashed away with me talking to Rowan about Girl Meets World (aka El Mundo de Riley), her cast and more from before the show launched! So, Let’s talk, guys! First, this episode gets into some reasons why Disney might have for canceling Girl Meets World. (Could it have something to do with Andi Mack f.k.a. Andiland, Forever Boys and Raven!?) How long does a series get before cancellation on Disney versus the Networks and other cable stations? Gotchya covered. Moving on, I’ll get into how I first met Rowan and Sabrina Carpenter. A lot of you have asked about it over the years. You guys saw the first time I met Rowan, but there’s more to fill in! (We actually ended up at the same school for a while between Spy Kids 4 and #GMW.)
